Timing a control
The timing screen does one job: it gets each car's time down the moment it happens, with the number attached, and loses nothing.
Timing a car
- Type the car number on the keypad.
- Press the big CAPTURE button the moment the crew hands you their time card. That's their time, not when the car pulls up. At a flying finish, press it as the car crosses the line.
- The number and the time appear in the list.
CAPTURE registers the moment your finger touches it, and a short lockout stops one car registering twice. Want a bigger clock? Tap the count above the list to hide the list, and tap it again to bring it back.
If you didn't get the number
- Press CAPTURE anyway. The time is the important part, and it's never worth missing while you type.
- Type the number straight after and tap Put on: it goes on the time you just captured.
- Or tap the row later to add the number, or leave it blank if you never saw it.
If you press it by mistake
Tap Void last straight away. The row stays in the list with a line through it, which is what scoring needs to see. Don't worry about tidying the list up: a crossed-out row is fine, and a missing one is not.
Notes
Tap Note and type what happened: a hold, a car stopping, a crew checking in on foot, anything unusual. Write it for someone reading it hours later who wasn't there, and say which car.
Start controls
- Each car gets the next free start time as you log it, shown beside the car number. Cars are spaced by the Gap between cars in Setup, or by the event's setup.
- Press LOG START to log the car. A full-screen countdown runs to the second, and a warning shows when the next start is only seconds away.
- To stop a start, hold on the full-screen countdown. The car goes back in the box.
- A crew late to the line: open their row and tap Started late. They get a new start time, and the one they missed is kept for scoring.
Out controls: MTC, Regroup and Service
MTC, Regroup and Service each have an In and an Out control. At an Out control, cars leave one a minute: log two cars in the same minute and the second is given the next free minute, and the log says whose minute it was.
Stop controls
- Type in the finish times relayed from the flying finish: the car number, then its finish time, then RECORD TIME.
- A car that leaves before its time comes through is logged as No time yet, and linked to its time when that comes in.
With a keyboard
On a laptop, or a tablet with a keyboard, type the car number and press Enter for the big button: CAPTURE, LOG START, or at a stop control, on to the finish time and then RECORD TIME. Space also captures where CAPTURE is the only button. Backspace and Esc correct the number, and at a stop control Tab moves between the car and the time.
Worth knowing
- Every time is saved the moment you capture it. If the device switches off or the app closes, it's all still there when you open it again.
- The screen stays on all day, which uses battery. A power bank is worth having, especially in the cold.
- Don't change the clock once cars are running unless someone asks you to.
- Most controls have no phone signal. That's expected, and doesn't affect anything.
At the end of the stage, hand over your log.
